Taste of Switchback: Feminist Press Fundraiser Tonight, October 4th

Looking for something to do tonight? Maybe something that involves drinking beer and reading poetry? Join me at Switchback Books’ Fundraiser. If you live in Chicago, I hope you can make it! If not, consider donating to Switchback. I’m happy to be donating private yoga instruction to the raffle tonight to support this feminist press.

When: October 4, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Forte Framing and Gallery
2301 W. North Ave., Chicago, IL

Switchback Books invites you to raise a glass with guests from all circles on the Venn diagram that is beer drinkers, feminists, and literary folk. Join Switchback Books at Forte Framing and Gallery for an evening of unlimited craft beer tastings, expertly paired and presented alongside poems from Switchback Books’ authors. The night features local and craft brews—including award-winning styles from Saugatuck Brewing Co.—intermittent readings, music provided by CHIRP Radio, exclusive copies of poem and beer tasting notes, raffle prizes, and more.

Mission Statement

Switchback Books is a nonprofit feminist press publishing and promoting collections of poetry by women, including transsexual, transgender, genderqueer, and female-identified individuals. We aim to educate the public about poetry by women, gender issues in poetry, and methods for poetry writing, with the goal of advancing groundbreaking poetry by women.

Vision Statement

Women poets, for the first time in history, have a deep and wide women’s literary tradition from which to draw. As the fortunate inheritors of the social, psychological, and linguistic spaces carved out by the artists and activists who have come before us, we seek to honor those visions and achievements while at the same time celebrating the multiplicity of voices that continue to emerge in women’s poetry.

Switchback Books’ vision is to become the preeminent publishing house for poetry by women—including transsexual, transgender, genderqueer, and female-identified individuals—in the United States. Equal parts megaphone, townhall, safehouse, and storefront, Switchback Books seeks to provide a lively—and sometimes raucous!—meeting place for the writing and critical discussion of and from the women’s voices that inhabit these continually evolving conversations.
