Practiced Love in 2013

Happy 2014! Maybe it’s just my age, but it feels like 2013 was a very significant year for many people around me. There were career changes, relationship changes, there was growth, there were failures. And that’s just my year!

I started 2013 with a bang and a fierce sequined top.

seriously fierce.

At the end of 2012 I was laid off. While I was doing my best to stay open and optimistic, I was also scared. And angry. And afraid that maybe-just-maybe-this-time-everything-wouldn’t-just-be-ok. By mid-January I’d 1) learned to wear red lipstick, 2) orange oiled all my floor boards and doors, and 3) decided to go to Kripalu for my yoga teacher training. I’d always thought I’d become a certified yoga teacher “someday” and it felt like this was the right time.

my Kripalu sangha. apparently this is the “funny” picture.

Conclusion: That was the right choice and I get to teach and practice with students at Tula, Namaskar, Bloom, Chi-Town Shakti, and even Center on Halsted. #win.

2013 was also the year of weddings. o.m.g. was 2013 the year for weddings. in chicago, in portland, in denver, in waco, texas for goodness sakes. beautiful lovely weddings.

caitlin and austin LITERALLY have a rainbow in the background. i can’t make this stuff up.

celeste and nathan. ugh, stoppit guys! too cute!

abby and sam’s wedding theme was “fantasy library” and they totally nailed it.

In the category of celebrity sightings – I met Ty! And NO, I AM NOT OVER IT YET!

somehow i totally missed that Tylan’s hoodie sweatshirt has a something on it until right now. Sometimes MY hoodies have something on them! Ty! You and I! We have so much in common!

And speaking of undying love. I moved in with the love of my life in June and then she went ahead and proposed five months later. No big deal. Just happily making a life long commitment to, probably, basically, the best person in the whole world. MUAH!

I rounded out 2013 by standing with fast food workers during the largest Fast Food Strike in the U.S. It’s time to get over the myth that fast food workers are 16-year-olds just making a few bucks in the summer. The average age of a fast food worker is 29 and 1/4 of them are supporting children. Workers deserve a living wage and you, and you, and you, and also you – can help. #fightfor15

I’d like my meal with a side of living wages. Thanks.

Happy 2014. I hope to practice with you soon.

New Years Eve, 2013.
