Well hello! I’m safely returned and rejuvenated (albeit, SUPER jet-lagged) from my six weeks of yoga training and adventure in Bali, Thailand, and Cambodia. Expect some thoughts and pictures from that soon BUT right now I wanted to make sure you knew about a great training happening in Chicago on Saturday, April 12 from 10-3pm.
The wonderful people at the Chicago Freedom School are offering a workshop on White Folks and Racial Justice. This is a workshop addressing how white privilege is manifested in individuals and society. Through personal reflection, storytelling, and group activities, this workshop will empower white folks to develop practices and tools that interrupt racism and how to take action against racism as individuals and as a collective.
Given that my post on the “Ghetto Yoga” incident remains one of the most read articles on this blog, it seems that many people are interested in gaining knowledge and skills around how to interrupt cycles of racism. Race and privilege are often hard topics to address and many of us didn’t grow up with a lot of productive models on how to navigate issues of race/racism/privilege in an authentic and honest way. I’m excited to participate in this workshop to learn, grow, and become a better advocate.
Hope to see you there!
